Watch Good Morning America Friday morning to see a feature on Randy Pausch. I suspect it will include his cancer treatment and childhood dreams (video of the talk, newspaper article). Blog entries about Randy and more.

The story about Randy was on at about 7:45 ET USA this morning. About half of the segment was clips from his talk and then half interview with Diane Sawyer.

Randy Pausch, a 46-year-old Carnegie Mellon University computer science professor, has terminal cancer and expects to live for just a few more months.

The Wall Street Journal recently wrote about Pausch's awe-inspiring final lecture "How to Live Your Childhood Dreams."

Here is the Wall Street Journal article they reference.

They do include links to meta-filter and to Randy's web site. The images are loading very slowly at the CMU web server right now, hope it can withstand the load.

I only heard a few words of his speech on GMA, as I was getting ready to go to work, But, what I did hear was enough to make me think about getting my own life in order; sharing his thoughts with my children and grandchildren. What a wonderful human being this man is. I pray he has the peaceful death, which he indicated was a concern, but there will be millions of people praying for this man and his family.

"Because of the overwhelming show of support for faculty member Randy Pausch and his work, the university has established the Randy Pausch Honorary Fund to help honor his legacy....The Pausch Fund will enable the university to continue and complete Randy's work, including his most important academic project: the Alice 3D authoring system." Some lessons from Randy Pausch’s last lecture that especially moved me:

1. Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things.
2. Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.
3. Never lose the child-like wonder.
4. If we do something which is pioneering, we will get arrows in the back. But at the end of the day, a whole lot of people will have a whole lot of fun.
5. Be good at something; it makes you valuable.
6. If you live your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, and the dreams will come to you.
